$20 Lauhala Coaster Workshop (Create a Pair) with Leialoha Mahuka
About this Event
Leialoha Mahuka – Lauhala Weaver & Cultural Practitioner
Leialoha Mahuka is a dedicated teacher and skilled weaver passionate about sharing her knowledge and culture with others. She does all the hard work— harvesting, cleaning, and preparing each piece of lauhala—so that students can fully immerse themselves in weaving.
Leialoha’s workshops offer a meaningful hands-on experience. Participants learn to transform lauhala strips into beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces. Whether creating a bracelet to wear with pride or gifting a handmade treasure to a loved one, students leave with a deeper appreciation for this traditional Hawaiian craft.
What's Included:
All materials, including carefully harvested, cleaned, and prepped lauhala, are provided. Each student can make a pair of lauhala coasters.
*Sorry, classes are non-refundable.
Class is held in room 203-A (stair access only.)
Mahalo to the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority (HTA) for helping make these workshops possible. Their support allows Waikīkī Community Center to offer authentic Hawaiian cultural experiences at an affordable community rate while honoring the cultural practitioner through fair compensation for sharing their ʻike, traditions, and skills.
Since 1978, Waikīkī Community Center has been a place where the community comes together. As a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we serve keiki, kūpuna, and neighbors of all ages through accessible programs, welcoming spaces, and essential support. Together, we're fostering connection, lifelong learning, and a stronger, more resilient community.
